when pandas are elephants and they have little mohawks down their backs

today's pictures of the day from the wallstreet journal include this photograph of elephants painted as pandas. the caption reads:

"Elephants painted in black and white were paraded at the Ayutthaya elephant camp, north of Bangkok, Friday to commemorate the birth of a panda cub at the Chiang Mai Zoo. The May 27 birth occurred after years of artificial insemination and efforts to get its celibate parents to mate, triggering a national craze for the animals."

panda panky

jason sends us this sleazy phone pic of two pandas mid-thrusting-action. he reports he found it in the guardian this week, though i am not sure of the context.

a panda friend is a good friend indeed

jordan points our attention to these helpful pandas. as if it were not cute enough already, they are also covered in snow:

Eek Panda Spoon!

From website Hunch.com, which seems to do a job you can do for yourself. Silly people, why let someone else make your decisions for you? Maybe it would appeal to some, but I wouldn't trust a computer to do it for me. Then again, it does make some excellent recommendations for things like cheese and cult movies - and who wouldn't want to be spooned by this fuzzy guy?

Panda Zine

My co-pandanator and I traveled on Friday to Needles & Pens in the Mission to see our girl-crush aka awesome comic artist Julia Wertz of Fart Party (seriously, go read from the beginning right now). Alas, we were too chicken to say hi because of the glory of her hipsterness and our own shy demeanors, but I did get lucky enough to find a panda hidden among the racks of zines galore.

Doris 24, a zine written by a lady named Cindy, is available from AK Press (support local!), Parcell Press and Microcosm Publishing, as well as at Needles & Pens (16th & Guerrero-ish), for the low low price of $2.00.

Also you can buy Julia's various publications here or at Needles & Pens.

Eat from a Panda

Bien sûr, mes amis, would you not enjoy a delicious meal with a delightfully sweet panda face staring adoringly up at you? Found in a house accoutrements shop in Rockridge.

A Puzzling Panda

Simply a puzzling product: found in a toy shop window, but is it a puzzle? A board game? A journey to another land secretly encased in a cardboard box? WHO KNOWS?!
